Grrrr…TONIGHT: My Tiger Movie presented by We Make Movies

October 9, 2011

TUESDAY IN COPACABANA is screening tonight at the Downtown Independent. Power and sexuality intersect in this surreal adaptation of an Argentinean poem that I made four years ago. In this beautifully shot, four minute short, a gorgeous bathing beauty (Laura Breckenridge) spots an Adonis (Douglas Barcellos) as her lunch date, and a perfect day at the beach turns surreal.

“The Tiger Movie” (as my friends and I call TUESDAY) will play before Joe Leonard’s HOW I GOT LOST. Joe is a great filmmaker and friend, and this first feature of his boasts a great cast and heartfelt story. Plus, a lot of my favorite collaborators’ talents can be seen in his film — JR on costumes, Sarah in the edit room, etc.

In addition to tonight, How I Got Lost will also screen Monday and Tuesday nights (7pm) at the Downtown Independent for its Spirit Award qualifying theatrical release.  Each night will feature a completely different roster of “We Make Movies” shorts from the WMM community! I’m so honored that TUESDAY can be a part of tonight’s lineup!

To purchase tickets for the event, go to Brown Paper Tickets (, or just get them at the box office on the night.

Don’t forget to enter in “wemakemovies” as a discount code when you buy your ticket online and you will get your tickets for $7.50 apiece.

TUESDAY at Tarfest

Another festival for TUESDAY IN COPACABANA!

My super short, wickedly weird, beautifully photographed (on 35mm! by Andre Lascaris! cut by Sarah Broshar! production designed by Mia Cho! starring Laura Breckenridge! shot on el Segundo’s beach to doubling as Copacabana in the ’40s!), cinematic adaptation of the Carlos Hugo Christensen poem will play in Tarfest on Saturday September 26 from 1-3 pm at the Korean Cultural Center (5505 Wilshire Blvd., LA, 90036).  Admission is free!

Laura Breckenridge on GG TONIGHT

March 2, 2009

I’ve been known to tune in to Gossip Girl… and DVR it… and to fervently plan social events inpsired by the broadcast of new episodes.  I admit it.

I’m a fan.

Despite all of its shortcomings, I eat up its fashion delights, easy-on-the-eyes actors and every word that comes out of Blair’s mouth.

But I’m also a fan of Laura Breckenridge.

Laura and I on set of "Tuesday in Copacabana."Laura and I collaborated in 2007 when she starred in Tuesday in Copacabana, a short I directed and wrote.  She had previously starred on the WB’s Related.   Laura was a dream to work with, and I can’t wait to have the chance again.

In the meantime, it’s a blast to watch her as guest star as Rachel Carr, a young, idealistic English teacher who goes to war with Blair and to bed with Dan.  Leave it to GG to make afterschool activities sexy again.

Catch Laura in action tonight at 8PM (pst) when the CW replays her first day at school or watch her online in “The Age of Dissonance,” “Carnal Knowledge” and “You’ve Got Yale.”
