“140” Takes Bronze Palm Award at Mexico Int’l Film Fest

May 23, 2011

This weekend “140” was awarded the Bronze Palm Award by the Mexico International Film Festival. I directed one of the 140 segments of this feature film which was comprised of 140 second segments filmed by 140 directors AT THE SAME TIME from around the world. Irish filmmaker Frank Kelly conceived of the Twitter-inspired concept, organized the massive endeavor and edited the film. Congrats to all the “140” filmmakers!

Taco Cinema

September 10, 2010

This Saturday (9/11) come and enjoy Los Angeles’s Downtown Film Festival‘s “Taco Cinema,” which includes gourmet food trucks, a beer garden, a live DJ and an outdoor screening of “140,” a feature length film that includes a segment I directed! The fun rocks and rolls from 1 – 9pm at the Medallion loft complex (4th & Main), and “140” screens at 8:30pm.  Buy tickets here!

THREE other films in the fest were made by some of my very talented friends, Brian McGuire and Jason Oldak.  Congrats, gentlemen!

Coincidentally, all of our films screen the same night, which means that if you’re attending the fest on Saturday, your chances are extremely high to see good stuff. Here’s the skinny on their films:

Brian McGuire’s films “On Holiday” and “Everything Will Happen Before You Die” (the Centerpiece Gala film!) screen at 5:30pm and 7:30pm respectively at the Civic Center Theater.

Jason’s film “Sissy” screens at 10pm in the same theater (Civic Center Theater) in the Shorts Program III.

140 Screens in Denver then at Hatch

April 28, 2010

TOMORROW: Screening of 140 (the twitter-inspired film; 140 segment directors, I was one)at the Denver Film Society in the Starz Film Centre on Thurs April 29th 7pm. If you’re nearby, pop over and see the film and say ‘hi’ to the film’s organizer, Frank Kelly, a super nice dude who flew in from Ireland to go to the screening.  Mention my name and he’ll be super, super nice.

After Denver, Frank will be going to Montana for a TBC screening in Bozeman in association with Hatch Fest (who held the preview screening of the rough cut back in October). All systems go!

There is still time to support 140 at kickstarter before Frank’s self-imposed deadline of May 1!

Support 140: The Film

April 20, 2010

Last June, 140 filmmakers in 140 locations simultaneously each filmed 140 seconds of “whatever they felt connected them to their home.” Frank Kelly organized the twitter-inspired production and edited the pieces together into a feature film. There was NO budget and Frank has never met or spoken to 90% of the filmmakers. This was all about the internet connecting us, baby. Frank finished the film just a few months ago. Congrats, Frank and the 140-team!

I contributed my 140 seconds to the project and got one of my images on the poster. (Shell with paper fortune, bottom left.)

On the eve of 140’s world premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival (4/23, 8pm, Edwards Island 6 Theaters, Newport Beach, CA), we’re raising money to print DVDs, make screening tapes, and pay for festival entry fees. Frank has set the deadline of May 1 to reach his target or he won’t use a penny of the money… even if he’s almost to the goal. Badass guy, huh?
